Broker Resume
Thank you for taking the time to visit this website and review a few personal remarks about my real estate career. A traditional resume with dates and employment history does not paint a sufficient picture of the "who" behind New England Contract Realty.
Earnings or commission statements since the millenium could fill many pages of statistical reporting as personal commissions earned have ranged between $1,500.00 to $250,000.00 for any single transaction with property prices anywhere from $67,000.00 to $11,500,000.00. The many years of multi-State licensure and the education to achieve these privileges might speak about the fluency and ability to perform in the business of real estate, but still do not address ideals of the person. Personal experiences are at the core of my business beliefs. This maturity has been incorporated into the customer service, daily workings and management of the company with commonsense application.
As a boy my father, a small-scale homebuilder, introduced me to the field of real estate. I remember many lessons about business, people, legal issues, office workings, general concepts of real estate and the construction of single family homes. First licensed to practice real estate as a young man, I spent time working for small real estate offices learning that not everyone shared the same ethical values in the industry as myself, ultimately deciding that construction and development better suited the vision of the time. The 15 years following were full of life. Working in the areas of field management, sub-contracting, and new construction (at times supervising over 100 employees). Getting married, buying a first home, family responsibilities, passion to travel, music, sports, appreciation of nature, education and interest in history all contributed to the individual I have become.
In the early '90s interesting real estate redevelopment projects were taking place peaking my interest to return to real estate. A business plan was put in to action by the late '90s and a new business was born. Solid competition with brokerage firms and local agents to facilitate fruitful transactions for clients and customers alike validated my choice to re-enter the real estate world as a business owner. Interesting work with national, regional and local developers added some spice to the mix. Good people, good friends and good ideas all brought value to the daily efforts.
Not all in life is fair, good or happy. In 2000 I was widowed, understanding the difficulties of lengthy illness, financial burden and loss. With kindly support from the people around me, personal perseverance and time, I have come to a greater awareness of this gift we call humanity. Providence presented a platform for advancement toward the future and in the pre housing-bust era, business was prosperous and full of vigor. The company business plan for expansion into a regional real estate brokerage continued unabated and on target. Mid-decade was a certainly a time of change. Remarried, children, shifting winds of the wild housing market and being displaced by the remnant storm rains of Katrina all gave insight to people and how they too are affected by their personal situations, challenges and successes.
During the collapse of real estate industry there was a period of time where it seemed as if the only work being done was that of the 'short sale'. Foreclosure was everywhere. There were many repeating human-interest stories of economic disaster, but even in that devastating decline the resilience of the human spirit was evident and compelling. Real estate practitioners in the field did not fair any better than the rest of the workforce with as many 400,000 choosing not to continue on, giving up their licenses and quitting the business. Fortunately with careful forethought, business flexibility and optimism New England Contract Realty has weathered that storm.
Today we are poised to expand. I believe as a practitioner that common ground can be found in almost all transactions to the benefit of all participants. As the firm owner I strive to provide a positive environment for customers, clients, agents and competitors to advance the nature of the business through leadership. These ideals are part of my life experiences. I hope this brief essay gives you some insight as to the "who" of New England Contract Realty.
Best Wishes,
Sean Donovan - Owner
